Speaking to a PMI gathering, Dr. James Brown awed the crowd by pointing out that the "7 Wonders of the World" were built before the PMBOK and that project management is simply "structured, organized, common sense." Oddly, he didn't get rushed off the stage, rather the group kept him at the event late in the evening, challenging him for more consulting.Other key takeaways:
- he predicts that ROI is a weak measure of project selection in an era that is expected to experience more technology advances in the next decade than the previous century; i.e., Dell can't know what they will be building 5 years from now.
- need to build and maintain trust within a team, if you expect them to perform under pressure.
- one trust violation could take 12 good deliveries to overcome
- the best PMs make the biggest mistakes (most likely because
they have the heaviest workload, most complicated tasks, etc.) - be a relationship builder
- management is synomous with manipulation
- "pain in process, pleasure in people"-preplan an escalation process
- create a team charter as an important leadership tool
Dr. James Brown is a "salami slicer" in his approach at long-term problems and you can meet him at his Project Management website: www.onepdu.com

However, people are also only as effective as the tools they are given. If the project management software does not process quickly, or offer effective applications, then the team cannot work to their full potential. Having high performance software enhances the natural abilities of the people who are using it.
what is contract management
