European Visit

I will be in London, Paris, Nice, and Rome throughout March for studies in Nice.

This will be my first visit to Europe. I would like to experience as much business and culture as possible. Where can I stay? I would like to rent a car, what is a good company? (rent from Heathrow airport?, rent from Nice?) I would also like to rent a scooter while studying in Nice.

And for a personal fantasy : I would love to hop on a motorcycle (Aprilia or Ducati) for a bit in Italy.

Any guidance or deterrence would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for the links, pix, and Int'l Driving permit advice.

If you plan on renting a car at Heathrow and are spending any time in London you should be aware that there is a congestion charge to drive in London. The last I knew it was 10 pounds a day, roughly $20 USD. Banners is a great place for breakfast in London, and one of the few places you will find a decent cup of coffee....they will ask if you want filtered coffee, say yes. Even the Starbucks kind of stinks over there. If you make it to Brighton go to the Lanes. There is a fantastic Spanish tapas place. The lamb was to die for. Be prepared for the bone chilling sort of dampness that we don't have in Colorado, especially if you plan on spending time there in March/April. Do yourself a favour and go to local pubs, just don't disrespect football...what Americans call soccer. You will not find more fanatical fans of any other sport in the world....if you have any other questions you can pm me on yahoo as beutelsguese.

spend as much time in Paris as you can. It is an amazing and beautiful city. The food, the wine, the history, the shopping, the architecture - you will love it!!! You will not need or want a car. Rent a scooter or a bicycle if you must, but take the subway, walk. It's all good. Check out www.vrbo.com for long and short term rentals in all major european cities. You can find a great studio for much less $$ than a hotel, in some of the best neighborhoods. I wish i could go...

Steve-
Nice blog, I've been checking it out ever since you left a message in my website's guestbook. Nancy and I took a 10 day cruise of "the med" with stops in Marseille and Nice.

When in Nice, make sure you go to a little village called Eze, and bring your camera. And if you're pressed for time I wouldn't bother going to Monaco, it's a big waste of time. Seemed like just a casino with a mall-type atmosphere to it. I'm sure you'll enjoy it, and even if you don't speak a lot of French try and the people will admire you for it. Enjoy!
